Preparing Your Family For An Animal Addition

Most families eventually consider adding a pet to the household. In many cases, the children are the ones who suggest the addition of an animal. Other times, the adults think a pet is a great way to teach kids responsibility. There are plenty of things to think about when it comes to adding a pet to the family. You need to think about the safety of both people and pets, the space the animal will need, and the cost of caring for an animal for the length of its life. There may also be minor home renovations that are needed to create the ideal environment for a pet. If a dog will be outside when it is off leash and you would like to be able to open the back door and let Fido roam free, you can install CT fencing. CT fences create a safe, healthy space for your dog. Dogs love to run off their leashes and having a large fenced in backyard for them to run free will make them happier pets.

Your house may need changes indoors and out, if you are planning to adopt a puppy. There will be a period of time when the puppy is not yet trained to use the bathroom outdoors. In the meantime, you will need to prepare for accidents. Create a space that is special for the puppy if you want to contain the accidents. Be sure there is durable flooring and newspaper protection.

You will also want to make the space comfortable for the puppy if it will be temporarily limited to a certain room. Place a comfortable dog bed in the space, provide toys, and make sure family members are spending plenty of time in the room with the pet. Even if you allow the puppy to leave the space before it is trained, it is still a good idea for the family to also go into the puppies space.

Regardless of whether you will have a specific space for the young puppy or not, it is important to dog proof your home prior to bringing puppy home. There are probably plenty of things in your home you do not want destroyed. Before the puppy comes home, you are going to have to find a solution for making sure the dog behaves. This may mean constant supervision which can be tough if your family works and goes to school full time.

In some families, dogs are required to stay in a crate during times they are home alone. Others create flexible spaces that allow a dog to move in and outdoors, even when unsupervised. If you give a dog affection and freedom, it is sure to make a happy family pet.

Build A Compost – Learn How

Building a compost is not very difficult. The main thing that you will need is a lot of patience. It does not happen over night but it is worth the wait.

There are tumblers the can be used to speed up the process. Even the best tumbler takes about 3 – 4 weeks.

Just pick out an unused part of the yard, maybe out of sight even. A compost pile does not produce any odor, if it is done right. It can be a bit unsightly though.

After your spot is picked out then it is time to start composting. Start with a nice layer of sticks or some kind of course material. This will supply good aeration from the bottom of the pile.

The next layer start with green matter. There is really no good reason to start with green matter you can just as easily start with brown matter but you are going to alternate to produce layers.

Green matter items from your kitchen, fruit peels, vegetables, coffee grounds and there filters, nut shells. Just about any kitchen waste will qualify.

Brown matter is the items that will come from outside. Leaves, sawdust, wood chips, paper items (simple black and white print only), and sticks laying around in the yard.

After these two layers add another aeration layer. hay, sticks, straw or anything else course you can think of.

After the materials have been added put a little dampness on the pile. Not to much though think of a damp sponge.

You might add a handful of dirt every once in a while as dirt contains microbes that will help kick the compost process into gear.

Then after you build a compost stack you will just need to be patient. You will have rich compost to spread over your plants in no time.

When the items begin to begin to break down compost will be formed. But it does take a little while so you should be patient. Your garden plants will love compost fertilizer, it’s worth the wait.
